Sri Lanka has not known such dramatic floods in nearly 60 years as the ones that hit the southern part of the country in May 2003. According to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (Federation), the victims of these floods are in urgent need of water, food and shelter. In order to bring assistance to 125,000 people for three months, the Federation has launched an appeal for $1.1 million.

Our Programs Worldwide - Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka, a country with enormous development potential, has struggled through 20 years of a debilitating civil war between the government and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). The LTTE have fought for a separate state for the Tamil minority, which makes up about 18 percent of the population of almost 19 million.
