Monday, August 23 - My mission to Pakistan begins

Note: The following appeal is now closed.  You can support our ongoing work by donating to the Canadian Red Cross

It's been a long day of briefings and information, but the team is now at the airport and ready for departure. We've got a long journey ahead of us: three separate flights and almost 24 hours of travel.

There are seven Canadians in the team, including 1 doctor, 3 nurses, a technician, a Psychological Support Program worker and myself. For some this is their first deployment with the Red Cross whereas others have many experiences behind them. This makes for a good mix.

We came to the airport wearing our Red Cross vests and received many questions and inquiries. Everyone wanted to ask us where we're going, what's happening on the ground in Pakistan or share their own stories of the Red Cross. People are genuinely interested in the work that we do. It makes me proud to wear the vest.

Not sure when I will be able to update again but hopefully once we've reached Islamabad.
