Kenya Crisis

Note: The following appeal is now closed.  You can support our ongoing work by donating to the Canadian Red Cross

On-going violence across Kenya in recent days has left hundreds of thousands of people in urgent need of humanitarian assistance. The Kenya Red Cross is reporting that over 100,000 people have been affected or displaced, 120 killed and over 1,000 injured.

Following the announcement of the General Election results on December 30, 2007, sporadic violence erupted across Kenya resulting in death, injuries, looting, destruction of property and the displacement of thousands of people. The Kenya Red Cross currently has over 500 staff and volunteers conducting emergency and relief activities across the country.

In response to this humanitarian emergency the Canadian Red Cross is appealing to the Canadian public to help us quickly respond to the urgent needs of vulnerable populations affected by the conflict.

Funds raised will be used to support the distribution of much needed relief supplies including food, household items, and water and sanitation equipment. Donations will also be used in support of the Kenya Red Cross’ efforts to trace missing persons and restore links between people who have been separated from their loved ones.
