Central Americans are struggling to deal with the devastation caused by Hurricane Stan. The hurricane pummelled the area in the first week of October, and torrential rains caused flooding and landslides that buried entire villages. While the death toll in Guatemala, hardest hit among many countries, is officially just over 650, it is believed that as many as 2000 people may have perished in the landslides. Stan has left hundreds of thousands homeless in Guatemala, Honduras, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Mexico, Belize and Haiti. More than 500,000 people are in desperate need of food, clean water and shelter.
