Red Cross earthquake response efforts continue in Japan.

On Friday March 11, 2011, a 9.0 magnitude earthquake hit Japan. This triggered four metre waves and tsunami warnings across the Pacific coastline. Official estimates indicate the disaster left over15,000 people dead and over 3,000 remain missing.

Red Cross teams continue to meet the needs of the most vulnerable. As part of the Red Cross relief operation, more than 130,000 blankets and 30,000 emergency relief kits and sleeping kits have been handed out to evacuees. In addition, 896 medical teams have treated over 87,000 patients.

Donations from the Canadian Red Cross continue to support Japanese Red Cross relief and recovery activities as they help people recover from the worst devastation imaginable.
