Typhoon Haiyan – locally known as Yolanda – created widespread destruction, including landslides and flooding that destroyed lives and homes. Urgent, life-saving emergency services continue to be required in the form of food, clean water, health and emergency shelter.
Donate to the Typhoon Haiyan Fund
Among activities supported by your donations is a Canadian Red Cross field hospital and staff, which is operating at full capacity on the heavily damaged island of Leyte, ensuring essential health needs of more than 100,000 people are met. This includes surgical, pharmacy, maternity, pediatric services and psychosocial support. In its first week of operation our medical team delivered more than 60 babies, performed 24 life-saving surgeries, and the children’s ward was at full capacity.
The needs are immense and we remain committed to helping people by also funding Red Cross activities in all affected areas such as staffing and equipping shelters and distributing food and cooking utensils, clean water, hygiene kits and other essential aid both immediately and in the longer term.
Canadians wishing to help individuals affected by this storm are encouraged to make a financial donation online, at their local Red Cross office or by calling 1-800-418-1111. Please earmark donations “Typhoon Haiyan.”
Our organization is transparent, open and accountable in reporting how your donations are used to make a difference in the lives of those that need our help. The Canadian Red Cross Society received a grade of A+ in every category, including overall charity efficiency, fundraising efficiency, and governance and transparency from Money Sense’s 2013 Canadian charity rating report. We were also among only two charities that appeared on both the biggest and top-rated charities lists. These accomplishments prove that you, our donors, can have confidence in the fact that your dollars are used to make the greatest possible impact in the lives of Canadians and those we help around the world.
