At the core of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement is the mandate and responsibility to protect and assist victims of conflict. Hostilities can escalate without warning and in the face of such unpredictable emergencies, the Red Cross attaches great importance in its ability to respond rapidly, with neutrality and impartiality.

It has been close to four years since the conflict began in Syria. Violence has brought death and destruction to Syria, and millions of people have been displaced from their homes or have fled the country.

Every day, across the country, Syrian Arab Red Crescent volunteers and staff are risking their lives to get aid to the most vulnerable Syrians.

Syrian Arab Red Crescent volunteers have lost their lives in the line of duty, while responding to this crisis. Despite the challenges, the Red Crescent, with support from its partners, is providing assistance to more than two million people each month.

The Red Cross is also responding to support those individuals and families that have fled Syria and are now displaced in countries within the region. It is estimated that 3.2 million individuals have sought refuge in neighbouring countries.

You can make a difference by making a much-needed donation. Examples of the impact your contribution may have include:

  • $10 will provide a high thermal blanket
  • $50 will provide a food parcel for a family of 5 for 1 month
  • $130 will provide a household kit that includes shelter items for a family of 5
  • $400 will buy emergency hygiene supplies for 133 people

Canadians wishing to support the enormous humanitarian relief and recovery efforts in Syria and surrounding countries are encouraged to make a financial donation online, at their local Red Cross office or by calling 1-800-418-1111. Please earmark donations “Syria Crisis Fund”.

Funds raised will go to support emergency efforts by the Red Cross Movement. This may include relief items (for example, blankets, sleeping mats, food parcels and hygiene items), medical supplies, equipment and deploying emergency personnel. This fund will cover numerous countries including those currently affected and those potentially affected in the future.
