2000

The Canadian Red Cross helped hundreds of thousands of people reeling from natural disasters around the world. In 2000 Canadian donors supported the Red Cross relief efforts in Mozambique and Colombia following catastrophic flooding in both of those countries.

Closer to home the Red Cross volunteers provided support following an evacuation of 5,000 residents of Red Deer, Alberta following a hazardous chemical spill in 2000. The Canadian Red Cross also provided shelter, food, clothing, bedding, and household supplies when fires destroyed a 148-unit apartment complex in La Salle and a 74-unit complex in Anjou, Quebec.

In 2000 a tornado in Pine Lake, Alberta killed 12 people, sent close to 140 to hospital, and resulted in over 3,500 inquiries from family members around the world. Over 220 Canadian Red Cross volunteers and staff responded to inquiries, and provided support and medical aid.
