To celebrate this Valentine’s Day, we’re sharing a few of our favourite Red Cross stories that highlight
love, partnership and even romance.
Let’s start with
From Lebanon with love: a Red Cross romance where volunteer Georges Yaacoub found romance through the Red Cross. For Georges, it was love at first sight when he met his wife at a Red Cross Valentine’s Day party in his birthplace of Zahlé, Lebanon. Building their life in Canada, Georges continues to share his long-time, family-wide love affair with the Red Cross.
Then, last fall, a Red Cross case worker, helping in the recovery after the Alberta wildfires, received a romantic surprise when her long-time boyfriend proposed at our offices in Fort McMurray. Although this volunteer couple didn’t meet through the Red Cross, they’ve kept their interests aligned after many years of marriage by both volunteering with the Red Cross. In

In
Highway hero saves life using CPR, one husband shows his love by performing CPR on his wife when she went into cardiac arrest while vacationing last summer. His actions saved her life and he encourages everyone to be trained in CPR in case a loved one is in need.
On Valentine’s Day a few years ago, students from a public school in Ontario gave clients of our
Meals on Wheels program a sweet surprise. Red Cross volunteers were happy to deliver their thoughtful gifts along with their meals.
