Share your emergency kit survival items: #InMyKit

Emergency Preparedness Week runs from May 1 - 7, and we are encouraging you to show us how you’re prepared by sharing photos of emergency kit items that are tailored for you.

What's in your kit?In every kit, there are the basic essentials, such as water, flashlight, and blankets, but we want to know what makes your kit special! What would you personally need included in your kit to survive 72 hours? If you have children, perhaps a special toy to give them comfort; or if you have a pet, perhaps Scruffy’s favourite snack; perhaps the sweet-tooth in you will require chocolate in your kit, or you may want to pack a book.

Share a photo or video on Twitter or Instagram with #InMyKit, for a chance to win one of three Canadian Red Cross emergency kits.

You can see what people are sharing with #InMyKit, as well as upload your own photos here.

Be prepared for an emergency with these tips:

  • Know what the risks are in your community and follow instructions from local officials
  • Make a plan for your family, including routes away from your home in case of an evacuation
  • Have a emergency kit  in your household containing key items you may need in an emergency

Jean-Pierre Taschereau, our Director of Emergency Operations, shows us what’s in his kit – you’d be surprised what this world traveler keeps on hand in case of emergency.
