The Red Cross Round-up

The Round-up offers a weekly sample of what our sister Red Cross Societies are working on around the world.

COSTA RICA:Costa Rica Red Cross at World Cup  The Costa Rican Red Cross is on hand at the Under 17 women’s football World Cup to provide both first aid and emergency care over the three weeks of competition and will be a visible presence both inside and outside the venues.  The National Society has provided five advanced support ambulances, seven basic operating vehicles, 95 lifeguards, medical staff, EMTs, nursing, communications and first aid attendants.

GUINEA: Guinea has been hit by an Ebola outbreak. As of March 25, the deadly hemorrhagic fever had claimed the lives of 60 people out of 86 cases reported across the country. The IFRC has deployed a Field Assessment Coordination Team (FACT) to Guinea, including an infectious disease specialist from the French Red Cross, as well as a psychosocial support delegate.  The Ebola outbreak comes at a time when the Red Cross Society of Guinea and other partners are already working with the government to address a cholera epidemic and an outbreak of measles.
