Today marks three years since a 9.0 magnitude earthquake and massive tsunami devastated Japan. The Red Cross continues to help survivors, like Satsuko Takezawa, return to a normal life.
After losing her husband seven years ago, Satsuko lived alone near the Fukushima coastline until the disaster destroyed her home. Satsuko recently moved into one of the permanent housing developments that Red Cross has supported following the devastation.

Since the onset of the disaster, the Japanese Red Cross, with support from National Societies like the Canadian Red Cross, has actively delivered relief assistance and longer-term recovery initiatives.
