Photo of the Day: 24 years of service and still going strong

Guest entry by James Park, Assistant Communications Coordinator in BCAlvina Berggren - Distinguished service 2013 photo

Nobody can deny Alvina’s Berggren's dedication to serving the community and working to improve the lives of the vulnerable. Her 24 years of tirelessly volunteering for the Canadian Red Cross was recently recognized with a Distinguished Service Award.

Alvina began volunteering with the Canadian Red Cross in 1989 as a Disaster Management relief worker and is currently the lead volunteer with the Health Equipment Loan program in Fort Nelson, British Columbia.

Alvina also assisted the American Red Cross during disaster responses for Hurricane Katrina, after the September 11 attack on the World Trade Center and in Puerto Rico.

I think the Red Cross is the greatest humanitarian organization in the world. We treat people with dignity and respect, in addition to providing them with the tools and services to recover. I feel such a sense of pride when I see the Red Cross vest.

Congratulations on your award, Alvina!
