At a time when many people are slowing down and enjoying their retirement 77-year-old Joan Thomson just can’t do enough.

18 years ago Joan started volunteering with the Canadian Red Cross after she took a First Aid Instructor’s course. Since then she has been giving back by volunteering with First/CPR/AED training, People Savers, babysitting, Childsafe, RespectED: Violence and Abuse Prevention and SmartStart training.

On Monday, Joan was presented with the Order of the Red Cross. The Order of the Red Cross is awarded to a maximum of 28 recipients each year. In Joan’s case she received the member level award for her outstanding volunteerism.

Thank you Joan, you really are making the world a better place.
