A chilly reminder to think twice in case of thin ice

Professor Popsicle ice rescue demo Professor Popsicle demonstrates a fall through thin ice at St. Vital Park, Winnipeg. He is rescued by members of the Winnipeg Fire Department.

It is that time of year again where the ice starts to melt and we need to be extra cautious. In Winnipeg, Gordon Giesbecht from the University of Manitoba (you may know him better as Professor Popsicle) helped us demonstrate just what happens when you fall through the ice. It was also a chance for Winnipeg Police Service and Fire Department to practice their rescuing skills. We were pretty glad it was someone else in the water and not us, brrr.

Here are some tips to help keep you safe around ice and check out our Red Cross PSA encouraging kids to think twice on thin ice.
