The Canadian Red Cross continues to provide support to those affected by severe flooding in Thunder Bay.  Working with community officials, the Red Cross is going door to door to meet with families in 1,500 homes affected by the floods to determine their needs and ensure they get help.

Today, the Red Cross will increase its efforts to reach those in the community by opening two Registration and Assessment Centres to allow those affected to come to the centre to report their needs and receive help. Those individuals in need of immediate basic necessities, such as food, water, clothing or shelter, will be offered items of relief upon assessment.

The needs of those affected in Thunder Bay are great and the Red Cross anticipates a long-term response. As such, the Red Cross has more than 100 volunteers and staff on scene working to help affected families. The Red Cross has drawn upon its pool of highly trained volunteers from across the country to ensure the best services can be offered to those in need in Thunder Bay.

Donations to support the Red Cross relief efforts can be made online at www.redcross.ca, by calling 1-800-418-1111 or visiting in-person their local Red Cross branch. Funds should be earmarked for Thunder Bay Flood 2012.
