The Canadian Red Cross continues to help families in Thunder Bay whose homes have been affected by massive flooding that occurred a week ago. To ensure the Red Cross has the most qualified disaster response volunteers on the ground to help with assessments and delivering aid, teams have been mobilized from across the country. There are more than 100 Red Crossers currently helping in Thunder Bay.
The Red Cross, working alongside city officials, is currently assessing 1,500 households to determine what is immediately needed, and ensuring those families have their basic needs met. Some of those families have had to move into Red Cross shelters because the damage in their homes is extensive and poses a health risk.
The Canadian Red Cross is accepting funds to support those affected by flooding in Thunder Bay.
Any individual interested in supporting the Red Cross’ relief and recovery efforts can do so by making a donation online at www.redcross.ca, calling 1-800-418-1111 or visiting in-person their local Red Cross branch. Funds should be earmarked for Thunder Bay Flood 2012.
Funds raised will go toward the Red Cross response to provide immediate relief, as well as meet longer-term needs.
