On May 15, 2011, more than 15,000 people were evacuated from Slave Lake and the surrounding communities due to massive wildfires that swept across the region—the largest disaster in Alberta’s history. The Canadian Red Cross response was immediate: deploying staff, volunteers and resources to help affected residents.

This photo essay is dedicated to the many volunteers and staff who continue to help residents with their recovery and transition. The Canadian Red Cross is committed to continuing to serve the people affected by the wildfires during the long road to recovery.
