Today is World Malaria Day – a day to bring awareness about a disease that affects millions lives and negatively impacts entire communities throughout the world.
For the past several years, the Red Cross Movement has been very active in helping to stop the spread of malaria through education and the distribution of insecticide-treated bed nets. The nets protect families while they are sleeping from mosquitoes that carry the malaria virus.
The above photo was taken during a net distribution in Nigeria. The Red Cross distribution supervisor is explaining to Sunday, 35, the head of the household, how to use the mosquito net and how to wash and repair it.
