In the wake of violence in Syria, thousands of Syrian families have fled to neighbouring countries. Social workers with the Jordan National Red Crescent Society are working in partnership with the French Red Cross and Unicef to provide social assistance to Syrian refugees.
Social worker Noura Al Momni is noticing changes in self-confidence, self-esteem, and general happiness after just two months. She uses group talks, activities, and art projects to encourage Syrians to talk about their experiences and help them establish a sense of security in their new homes. Syrian refugees have the option to take training courses to help them obtain jobs, including tailor, make-up artist, and computer training. Art helps the children cope with their experiences.
