That’s a big Red Cross

When most youth go to summer camp they go canoeing, make crafts, sing songs around a campfire. Yesterday, 2650 Finnish summer campers did something different: they made a mark by creating the world’s largest human Red Cross.

The cross was created at the Pitkis-Sport Camp in the town of Kokemäki. The camp - one of the largest in Finland and a partner of the Finnish Red Cross - is putting a special emphasis on safety this year. What better way than creating one of the most recognized symbols for health and safety in the world?

1700 of the youth were part of the camp with more than 1000 guests also pitching in to help.

They didn’t enter the Guinness Book of World Records, but it’s an impressive feat nonetheless! I wonder if you could see it from space. Hmmm..

Interesting Fact: The current recorded world record for the world’s largest Red Cross goes to the Norwegian Red Cross who created a Red Cross with 935 participants in May 2010.
