Disaster dining solution for the non-foodie

*Every Friday we invite Red Crossers to share their favourite recipes, or recipes that remind them of the Red Cross.

For this week’s Food Friday, we thought we would write an entry that caters to all the non-cooks out there.

We recently came across this Emergency Food Kit that contains 12 complete meals (4  breakfasts and 8 lunch/dinners) to help you get by if there was a disaster in your community. The Meals Ready to Eat (MRE) were designed by and for the US military and have a shelf-life of 5-years. They also come with their own flameless ration heater, so you don’t have to worry if your stove and microwave are not working.

Each meal features an entree, side dish, dessert, wheat bread, drink powder, hot chocolate and condiments. No recipes or cooking needed!

What are your thoughts? Would you add this to your 72-hour emergency preparedness kit?
