Volunteer Spotlight: Doris Barkley

A big congratulations goes to Red Cross volunteer, Doris Barkley, for recently being recognized for her work and dedication in volunteering for various organizations in Stratford.

Doris recently received the Mother Theresa Faith in Action Award by the Huron- Perth Catholic District school board.

Among her volunteer activities, Doris, whose son Ryan was diagnosed with autism, is a strong advocate for children with disabilities; she was the president of the Autism Society in Stratford. She also runs a hot meal program at a local school and volunteers with a teen esteem program.

For the Red Cross, she is a disaster management volunteer.

“She is an invaluable member of our team. Always there when needed to pitch in and willing to do anything,” says Erin Schooley, Red Cross community services coordinator in Stratford. “Whether she is mucking through the supply room or sitting quietly with a victim, she always can be counted on. “We are so lucky to have her with the Red Cross, not only for her volunteer efforts but the energy she brings to every task.”
