Twister touches down

We heard a tornado might strike in Ontario yesterday, and unfortunately it did touch down in Midland.

Midland Mayor Jim Downer declared a state of emergency almost immediately after the twister touched down, but the good news is that media reports indicate no one was seriously injured. There is, however, a lot of rubble and homes and buildings that were damaged or destroyed.

Our Red Cross volunteers are still on the scene to help provide support to those affected by the tornado. Volunteers are currently at the reception centre to register those forced from their homes.

News of the tornado has gone international and this CTV video documenting the damage appeared on the CNN web site.
