Red Cross teaching sailors to say “ahoy!” to First Aid

A shipmate is not paying attention because of commotion on deck.  He steps back and falls into the cargo hold. He is conscious, but cannot get to his feet.  What do you do?

The Red Cross is helping seafarers prepare for situations like these and many more with basic and advanced Marine First Aid Courses.

We know it is especially important to have  “all hands on deck” when there is a first aid situation on a boat because EMS or Coast Guard response times on water may not as quick as on land.

In Niagara Region, the Red Cross teaches these courses at the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corp and the Georgian College Marine Training Facility. Students come from all over : Philippines, Russia, Africa, United States, Canada.
