9,000 pounds of pennies for Haiti

During the annual general meeting of Red Cross senior volunteers, one of our volunteers shared a story about fundraising for Haiti. Turns out two schools in Sarnia did a penny drive during the emergency.

The result? 9,000 pounds of pennies.

Yes, that's right! Nine thousand pounds! Can you imagine what that looks like? Let me show you a few other things that are also 9,000 pounds:

A whale weighs about 9,000 pounds.

So does a pick-up truck.

Even the World's Largest Brick weighs 9,000 pounds!

Congratulations to Christa Kock, the Sarnia  Branch Council president, and the entire team of volunteers who went above and beyond to count, roll and transport the coins to the bank.

Altogether, the Sarnia branched raised more than $300,000 for Haiti.
