SRI LANKA: Since the reserves in and around Nugelanda have fallen victim to illegal loggers and those clearing the land for illegal cultivation, wild elephants have started to move into areas inhabited by people.The IFRC has launched a preliminary emergency appeal for $1.5 million to respond to an outbreak of polio in the Republic of Congo. This is the country’s first reported case since 2000.

HAITI: The earthquake in January led to a large number of amputations in Haiti. Child amputees are learning to enjoy life again after having suffered the worst.
