The Red Cross Round-up

*The Red Cross Round-up is written by Katie Robinson, communications coordinator for the Canadian Red Cross*

Taking the lead from our friends at the American Red Cross, we are launching a Canadian version of the Red Cross Round-up. The Round-up will offer a weekly sample of what our sister Red Cross Societies are working on around the world. Enjoy!

HAITI:
Tropical Storm Tomas is predicted to hit Haiti on Friday. This storm has the potential to become a Category 3 hurricane.  This comes after a cholera outbreak that has affected thousands in Haiti.

PAKISTAN: Three months on, the flooding continues and millions remain displaced from their homes.

SOUTH EAST ASIA: Mount Merapi, Indonesia’s largest volcano, continues to erupt and displace thousands people.  For the past two weeks, 5 countries in South East Asia have been affected by 6 disasters causing widespread devastation.

SOUTH SUDAN: The IFRC has launched an emergency appeal for $2.4 million to mitigate the devastating effects of floods in South Sudan, currently affecting over 50,000 people.
