It’s Community Support Month in Ontario - an awareness initiative by the Ontario Community Support Association, about all the different programs and services to help people to live at home. We thought it would be a great opportunity to share a glimpse into many of our community health programs in Ontario.
When you think of Red Cross, you probably immediately think of disaster response or first aid. However, what you may not know is that we have many programs and services to help elderly, injured or frail members of many communities across the province. Some of these programs include giving rides to medical appointments, delivering nutritious meals, or making a friendly visit or phone call to those isolated and alone. Many of them are made possible because of the dedication and support of volunteers.
Also, over the past year, 3,000 Red Cross Community Support Workers provided 3.5 million hours of personal support and homemaking service to Ontarians.
Are there any Red Cross community health programs that you feel deserve to be highlighted on the blog? Write your suggestions in the comment box below.
Stay tuned for different stories throughout the month of October.
