Health Programs
Health is a right of all people and a cornerstone of human dignity and humanitarian assistance. Without it, the full potential and capabilities of individuals as active, productive and responsible members of society cannot be realized. As such, health is not only an outcome of development but a key contributor to economic and social progress.
Canadian Red Cross works closely with its sister National Societies around the world to respond to pressing global health challenges with a number of innovative approaches. All health programs centre on people and volunteer action and aims to foster abilities at the household and community level to identify, prevent and manage risks to health.
Health projects of Canadian Red Cross focus primarily on mothers and children, who often are the most vulnerable to disease, malnutrition, conflicts, disasters, poverty and marginalization.
This includes the training of Red Cross community health volunteers as counselors, home-visitors, mentors and monitors of health in their local communities, and providing technical assistance for community health workers and local Red Cross Red Crescent Societies.
