Chief Financial Officer

Reporting to the Secretary General/CEO, the CFO is a consultative leader who works in partnership with senior executives to ensure the organization is well positioned to maintain its place as the leading humanitarian organization in Canada. The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a key leadership position and member of the Executive Management Team accountable and responsible for developing and directing the implementation of comprehensive strategies to enhance and promote the work of the Canadian Red Cross to a wide variety of stakeholders.
The Chief Financial Officer contributes to the strategy, financing and operations of the Canadian Red Cross Society ("the Society") as a key member of the Executive Management team (EMC). He/she will work closely with the Secretary General/Chief Executive Officer and the Board of Directors, and is responsible for providing leadership, direction and monitoring of the Society’s financial health and regulatory compliance. The CFO has specific responsibilities for financial & accounting, real estate, procurement and information systems.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Establish an effective working relationship with the CEO and the Board providing staff support to Board Committees such as the National Audit and Finance Committee
Advise executive management on the financial implications of operational decisions and activities maintaining strong relationships so as to understand and identify their needs and seek full range of solutions
Collaborate with executive team colleagues to develop and implement initiatives that promote a culture of teamwork and collaboration across programs and geographies, ensuring opportunities are created for communication, exchange of ideas and collaboration across all levels of the organization
Refine and manage processes to advise the CEO and Board of Directors of actual or potential irregularities, non-compliance, or other issues which may have a financial impact on the Society.
Lead the Finance team, providing strategic management, setting goals and expectations, supporting high level performance, recognizing success, building succession plans and generally cultivating a strong and integrated team across Canada Ensure credibility by providing timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial trends and forecasts.
Lead corporate service departments including Information Systems (IS); Facilities/Real Estate; Procurement & Administration providing strategic management, setting goals and expectations, supporting high level performance, recognizing success, building succession plans and generally cultivating strong and integrated teams across Canada.
Oversee the Society’s budgeting processes (capital, operating and investment) including but not limited to; developing budgeting guidelines and processes; monitoring achievement of budget; ensuring budget aligns to the Society’s strategic and operational plans.
Support the Chief Information Officer (CIO) in the development, implementation and prioritization of IT strategies and systems that support the variety and complex operations of the Society
Ensure the production of internal financial information and external financial reporting ensuring the financial statements accurately represent the financial position of the Society and its operations.
Participates in disaster management planning, preparation and response as needed
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Formal Education and Certification
Chartered accountant ( CPA, CA) or other relevant designation;
Post secondary degree in Business, Commerce or a related field or an appropriate combination of education and experience
Knowledge and Experience
At least 10 years progressive leadership experience and senior-level financial or accounting/audit positions
Demonstrated competency and experience in leading a large, multi-location team managing staff and developing talent to ensure efficiency of the team.
Experience in leading organizational transformation projects
Demonstrated experience in operational planning, data-driven program evaluation, organizational management and program development
Experience with Canadian charitable or not -for -profit organizations as either staff or volunteer a definite asset

The ability to communicate fluently in English and French is an asset.
Commitment to the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross Movement.
Work-related travel and weekend meetings are a requirement of the job.
