Red Cross prepares for Hurricane Sandy
In preparation, the office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management in Jamaica has issued its first public advisory to Jamaica’s population of 2.8 million.
The Red Cross is preparing communities for the storm with a disaster response system in place as the Jamaican, Haitian and Cuban Red Cross societies have pre-positioned emergency relief supplies such as hygiene kits and tarps. Volunteers have also been mobilized to assist with evacuation efforts.
The Canadian Red Cross is monitoring the situation closely and has pre-positioned stocks and trained delegates ready to be deployed if needed.
Canadians wishing to support Hurricane response and preparedness efforts can make a financial donation to our Hurricanes 2012 online at www.redcross.ca, by calling 1-800-418-1111 or by contacting their local Canadian Red Cross office.
