Position Title: Customer Service Volunteer
Volunteer Role: Service Delivery Volunteer
Department and/or Program: Health Equipment Loan Program (HELP)
Location: Medicine Hat, AB
Purpose:
The Canadian Red Cross Health Equipment Loan Program (HELP) loans medical equipment, on a donation basis, for a short term to people recovering from surgery, illness or injury with a medical referral form. Volunteers would act as the front line contact for public inquiries, both telephone and walk-in and provide support to program staff.
Reports to:
Branch Coordinator, Medicine Hat
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Acts as the front line contact for public inquiries, both telephone and walk-in, and provides support to program staff.
- Works with clients and health care professionals to fulfill equipment requests
- Maintain paper and/or computer records regarding loans and returns
- Receives, records, secures financial donations
- Assists with all functions of HELP program as required.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Excellent customer service and organizational skills
- Friendly and enjoy helping others
- Fluent in spoken and written English and, perhaps, speak a second language
- Enjoy working as part of a team with people from a variety of backgrounds
- Willing to submit to a police information check
- Physically able to handle wheelchairs, walkers, bath seats and other health equipment
- Experience with computer data entry
Time Commitment:
- Volunteers are asked to commit to one shift per week (3-4 hours) flexible
Required Training and Development Opportunities:

- Introduction to the Red Cross & Red Crescent movement
- Equipment specific training
- Preventing Disease Transmission
Probationary Period:
Three Months
