Janet Osborne
Not too many people can say they enjoy getting up every morning and heading to work. But, for Janet Osborne, it’s not a problem; she truly loves her job. For the past 18 years, she has worked with the Canadian Red Cross as a Community Support Worker (CSW).
Currently living in Kingston, Janet helps her clients with personal care – bathing, dressing, and gentle exercising – and also respite and palliative care. She always goes the extra mile, providing compassionate care and support to her clients and their families.
Even during her clients’ final moments, Janet is there to help in any way she can. She once held one of her client’s hands as they passed away. Another time, with permission, she took a client suffering from cancer to a photo studio to get her portrait taken. The client knew she didn’t have long to live and wanted her family to have one last nice photo of her.
Memories such as these motivate and inspire Janet to go to work every single day. “I like helping my clients and making them comfortable,” she said. “I do everything I can for them.” Janet’s dedication is an inspiration to us all.
