Canadian Red Cross Responds to Fire in Sundre

(Alberta) March 30, 2012: Local Red Cross officials have responded to two individuals affected by fire in Sundre. A volunteer team has provided the individuals affected with shelter for 72 hours, as well as emergency clothing, hygiene kits and blankets.

Officials with the Red Cross Personal Disaster Assistance Team (PDAT) responded immediately after receiving a call for assistance Thursday morning. The PDAT will provide the temporarily homeless individuals with referrals to other organizations to assist with long term needs.

The Red Cross Personal Disaster Assistance Team is a group of dedicated volunteers who assist families and individuals with local, small scale disaster situations. Last year our volunteer teams assisted close to 1000 adults and children facing crisis situations across Alberta.

The average cost of a response in which a family of four is assisted is $2000. All Canadian Red Cross support is provided at no charge to those in need. To donate to this locally funded program please visit your local Red Cross office, call 1-800-418-1111 or go online to www.redcross.ca
