Disaster Response Volunteers - Prince Edward Island

The Canadian Red Cross is a non-profit, humanitarian organization dedicated to helping Canadians, as well as the most vulnerable throughout the world.

We are currently seeking individuals to join our Disaster Management team in Prince Edward Island. These teams of volunteers provide emergency social services, within the Canadian Red Cross guidelines, to people affected by local disasters such as residential fires, flooding and evacuations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Providing support to affected persons.
  • Putting Canadian Red Cross response plans into operation.
  • Providing referrals to partner agencies and other community-based groups.
  • Completing client assessments and administrative follow-up.
  • Participating in preparedness activities and training.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Excellent listening skills and ability to empathize.
  • Reliable, able to make decisions and remain calm under stress.
  • Available to respond to disaster during regular and irregular hours based on a defined schedule.
  • 18 years of age (minimum).
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to respond (access to vehicle).
  • Clean criminal records check.
  • Successful completion of mandatory training programs.
