Disaster Response Volunteers - Newfoundland and Labrador

What if a disaster strikes your community? What if you lost your home to a fire? What if we weren’t there?

The Canadian Red Cross is a non-profit, humanitarian organization dedicated to helping Canadians, as well as the most vulnerable throughout the world.

We are currently seeking volunteers to help during local disaster responses to emergencies such as residential fires, flooding, hurricanes and evacuations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Providing support to affected persons.
  • Putting Canadian Red Cross response plans into operation.
  • Responding to client queries, referring, when necessary, to appropriate resources or other agencies.
  • Completing client assessments and administrative follow-up.
  • Participating in preparedness activities and training.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Excellent listening skills and ability to empathize.
  • Ability to work well and make decisions under stress.
  • Flexible, willing to work hours that can vary depending on the nature of the disaster.
  • 18 years of age (minimum).
  • Clean criminal records check.

Disaster response experience is ideal; however, we will provide training and professional development. If you have the desire to help people in need and enhance your career possibilities, we have a role for you in our organization! Leadership opportunities are also available.
