Front-line Disaster Management Volunteer
Position Title: Front-line Disaster Management Volunteer
Program/Department: Disaster Management
Location: Community-based (Thompson, Flin Flon/The Pas, Brandon, Winnipeg)
Purpose:
- This position provides emergency social services and recovery assistance, within Canadian Red Cross guidelines, to people affected by disasters in Manitoba. For events outside of Manitoba, front-line volunteers may also assist with the collection and processing of donations at local offices.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Provide services based on organizational standard operating procedures and assistance guidelines
- Participate in preparedness activities at the branch level
Time Commitment:
- Weekday, day-time availability an asset
- Ability to respond during non-traditional hours (i.e. late at night) an asset
- 2 years
Qualifications:
- Excellent communications skills (verbal & written)
- Reliable, flexible, patient
- Excellent listening skills
- Able to assist clients in a confidential and sensitive manner
Requirements:
- Able to support the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement.
- Able to pass Criminal Records and Child Abuse Registry Checks.
- Hold a valid driver’s licence
- Willing to undertake disaster management training and recertify as necessary
Training & Orientation:
- Introduction to the Movement
- Introduction to Disaster Services
- Level 1 – Providing Relief Assistance to Clients
- Emergency First Aid
