Red Cross assists survivors of Indonesia’s double disaster
The Red Cross is responding to the impact of two major disasters that have struck Indonesia in recent days. Thousands of people in Indonesia have been left devastated in the past week by an earthquake, a tsunami and continuous volcanic eruptions from Mount Merapi.
The Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) has been quick to respond with over 400 personnel already on the ground. Red Cross volunteers are supporting the evacuation process, providing health services, including psychosocial support, water and sanitation facilities, interim shelter and relief food and non-food items to survivors.
The Canadian Red Cross is monitoring the situation and is ready to deploy emergency stock and personnel if needed.
The best way Canadians can help in times of disaster is by making a financial contribution to the International Disaster Relief Fund (IDRF). The IDRF allows us to respond within hours of an emergency, well before any money has been received from supporters. It also allows us to implement disaster preparedness programs to create stronger and more resilient communities.
Please donate- your help can’t wait.
