Family Reconnection within Canada
When a major disaster strikes, family members may become separated, especially if they are at school or work. Being apart from loved ones can be a stressful experience – particularly during an emergency when they need each other the most.
The Red Cross helps families reconnect during major disasters. For example, during the 2009 Manitoba floods, the Canadian Red Cross opened a Family Reunification Line to assist evacuees to reconnect with their friends and family. Volunteers received over one thousand calls from evacuees who registered their whereabouts. Learn more about Canadian Red Cross actions in disasters in Canada.
We have an established worldwide network to reunite families and loved ones who were separated because of disasters, conflicts and other hardships. Learn more about the worldwide Restoring Family Links service.
