Red Cross volunteers help at immunization clinics

Volunteers from the Canadian Red Cross at an H1N1 Clinic

Hundreds of people visiting H1N1 immunization clinics in Ontario will be greeted by a familiar face – their local Red Cross volunteer.

The Canadian Red Cross is supporting several clinics with non-medical support. Volunteers help with registration activities, greeting people as they come in and providing information from public health authorities. This support helps clinic staff serve the community quickly and efficiently.

Sandra Wu, a volunteer in Ottawa, has been volunteering clinics in the city since they first opened.

“I’m on-call for the Red Cross every six weeks and it feels natural to help in this way,” Sandra commented. “People don’t always know what to do when they arrive at the clinic or what to expect. I’m happy to be able to guide them through the process.”

The Canadian Red Cross supports public authorities in preparedness and response activities before, during and after a health emergency. For more information or for flu prevention and preparedness tips, please visit www.redcross.ca/flu.
