Red Cross Niagara Branch Celebrates Centennial With 200 Person Photo

On September 13, 200 Red Cross staff, volunteers and supporters from the Niagara branch office formed a human Red Cross in Port Dalhousie.

The event was part of this year’s celebrations for the Canadian Red Cross centennial. In 1909, the Canadian Red Cross Society Act was signed by parliament giving Canadians its own Red Cross.

“It was a powerful moment,” said MaryAnn McDonnell, administrative coordinator for the branch. “Together, shoulder to shoulder, we embodied the essence of our services and our Fundamental Principles of Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity and Universality by forming a human Red Cross,”

All the participants, who were wearing red and white t-shirts, broke out into song, and sang “Happy Birthday” to Red Cross.
