HELP (Health Equipment Loan Program) - Short Term Loan Service

Description

The Canadian Red Cross HELP - Short Term Loan Service loans medical equipment (with medical referral) to people in need, on a donation basis. Equipment Maintenance volunteers ensure that clients receive equipment that is of the highest standard of safety by inspecting equipment and making adjustments and repairs as required.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Checks equipment for damage and performs routine maintenance where needed
  • Replaces broken or worn parts as needed and removes usable parts from unrepairable equipment for re-use
  • Ensures that all equipment is adequately labeled and numbered (for identification and inventory tracking purposes) and has been cleaned and sanitized before it is made available for loan
  • Performs equipment cleaning and disinfection duties a minimum of 1 shift per month

Duration

Ongoing; minimum of 6 month commitment

Time Commitment

Flexible shifts (minimum 3 hours) available Monday – Saturday, morning and afternoon

Qualifications

  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to lift heavy equipment (50 lb), i.e. wheelchairs
  • Must enjoy working with people from varied backgrounds and have the ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of medical equipment is an asset
  • Must be a minimum of 19 years of age and willing to submit to a Criminal Record Check

Training & Meetings

  • “Introduction to the Movement” orientation to the Red Cross provided
  • Task-specific training provided
  • Preventing Disease Transmission training provided
  • Equipment Cleaning training provided
