Humanitarian Award and Young Humanitarian Award Criteria:
The Canadian Red Cross Humanitarian Award and Young Humanitarian Award have three objectives:
- To document and officially recognize the spirit of humanity in each atlantic province;
- To draw public attention to the full scope of humanitarian activity;
- To inspire individuals to pursue humanitarian goals.
The Canadian Red Cross Humanitarian Award and Young Humanitarian Award are presented annually to individuals in Atlantic Canada who have demonstrated this spirit of humanity in a local, national or international capacity by:
- Promoting mutual understanding, friendship, cooperation and lasting peace among all peoples.
- Contributing to the alleviation of human suffering, protection of life, or the promotion of health.
- Educating the public on the meaning and importance of humanity and human dignity.
- Promoting the respect for the human being.
This criteria has been adapted from the principle of Humanity as stated in the seven Fundamental principles of the Red Cross movement.
