In Memoriam, Romeo Leblanc
It was with great sadness that Red Cross volunteers and staff learned of the passing of former Governor General and Honorary Canadian Red Cross President Romeo LeBlanc.
The former governor general died on the morning of June 24th at his home in New Brunswick after a lengthy illness. He was 81.
LeBlanc was widely commended for making Rideau Hall more open to the public, including hosting Canadian Red Cross volunteers and staff in October, 1996.
He also proclaimed June 21 National Aboriginal Day and established the Caring Canadian Awards, which still honour citizens that go to extraordinary lengths to help others.
Our thoughts are with his wife, Diana Fowler LeBlanc, and children.
