Red Cross Response

HELP Logo
Each year in Western Canada, Red Cross provides the short-term loan of clean, safe medical equipment to more than 46,000 people of all ages who are living in their homes and recovering from injury, illness or surgery.

Red Cross medical equipment includes wheelchairs, walkers, canes, bathroom aids, etc.

The use of medical equipment often increases a person’s ability to do little things that can increase independence and dignity – such as climbing stairs, bathing or cleaning house. A walker can allow an elderly person to move about safely, while a wheelchair might mean the freedom of movement to take part in activities outside the home.

The Red Cross in Central and Northern Alberta operates HELP (Health Equipment Loan Program) in Red Deer, Grande Prairie and Edmonton.

The program is community-based, and operated by caring and committed staff and volunteers who clean and maintain the equipment, provide customer service and lead efforts to continually improve the program.
