Canadian Red Cross Injury Prevention is pleased to announce that Automated External Defibrillator (AED) units have been purchased for seventy eight Red Cross offices in Canada. These units are currently being installed and will be operational shortly.

As leaders in first aid training and injury prevention, the Canadian Red Cross is proud to further demonstrate our leadership in the promotion of AEDs in Canada through this initiative.

“The importance of AEDs can’t be emphasized enough,” says Rick Caissie, National Injury Prevention Director for the Canadian Red Cross. “Prompt use of an AED following sudden cardiac arrest greatly increases a person’s chance of survival.”

The purchase of these AEDs strengthens Red Cross’s position as training and safety experts and also represents a significant investment on the part of the organization towards ensuring the safety and security of our clients, staff and volunteers in our buildings.

“We serve communities across the country daily through essential programs and services, and we are committed to the well-being of the people we serve and our personnel,” says Caissie. “AEDs have proven to be effective and they are very easy to use. The Red Cross recognizes that AEDs save lives and we include AED training in all of our first aid and CPR courses.”

The AED units will be installed in all Red Cross locations in the coming weeks. The Red Cross trains over 470,000 Canadians each year in first aid and CPR/AED.
