The Palliative Equipment Program

The Red Cross Palliative Equipment Program operates in Vancouver as a contracted service from the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority to provide equipment to palliative patients.

The Palliative Equipment Program is now serving in Vancouver only. We are no longer serving in Richmond.

How to apply

Clients can be referred to the palliative equipment program by nurses,  occupational therapists, or physiotherapists working in community health centres or hospitals. Eligible health professionals can call 709-6634 or 709-6633 to obtain copies of the application forms.

Completed application forms should be faxed to the Red Cross at 709-6688. Upon receipt of the forms, the Red Cross will contact the designated contact person to arrange a time for delivery.

Equipment Available

The program has a stock of both new and used equipment for loan.  Equipment available includes wheelchairs, bath aids, toileting aids, cushions, handipoles, grab bars, walkers, hospital beds, mattresses. The Red Cross service does not include biomedical equipment or disposable supplies.

Services Available

Equipment is delivered and installed in the home at no charge to the client.  If required, equipment is provided within 3 working days of the request. Availability is guaranteed for all items on the equipment list. For equipment required after 6pm on weekdays or weekends, health professionals can contact local suppliers on contract with the Red Cross to provide after-hours service. The program covers the costs of this service. Equipment repair or modification is available as needed. Equipment pick up is also provided once the equipment is no longer needed.
