Red Cross Says Good-bye to Long-time Friend

Doris Hollox
June 19, 2008

Staff and volunteers were saddened to learn about the passing of long-time volunteer Doris Hollox on Thursday June 12.  Doris joined the Red Cross as a volunteer in 1984 and continued to work in an administrative capacity until earlier this month.

Most recently, Doris greeted visitors at the reception desk at the Yonge Street office with her friendly smile and warm character.  She made many friends at Red Cross over the years and will be fondly remembered.

“Doris was a dedicated volunteer,” said Mary Kurup, assistant with administration and quality management.  “Doris came to the office rain or shine, even snowstorms couldn’t keep her away.”

Doris took great pride in her work and was known for her stylish dress and matching jewellery around the office. She believed in her work as a volunteer for the Red Cross and received numerous awards for her service to the Society including an award recognizing her many years of service (1995), two merit awards (1990 and 1997) and Appreciation for Administration (2008).
