Call (780) 423-2680
The Canadian Red Cross is recruiting locally and for our rural Central and Northern Alberta Disaster Management Teams. After an initial screening process, participants will learn about the Red Cross response framework; working with people affected by disasters; how to provide recovery services; how to communicate with stressed clients and how to handle your own stress. Standard First Aid/CPR training is also included. This course offers in-class instruction as well as online training opportunities.
After finishing the course, graduates act as responders to disasters in the event of either a small or large-scale emergencies. Graduates become important resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the importance of personal emergency preparedness. The program required a one-year commitment from volunteers who go through this training.
Examples of volunteer activities include:
Disaster Management volunteers help those affected by disasters receive emergency services such as lodging/shelter; food; emotional support; clothing; family reunification and information about how to access services.
There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute here at the Canadian Red Cross, and volunteers are able to choose the areas that interest them the most.
